CONTENT EXPECTED OF EACH ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVE

AO1 you need to "record observations, experiences and ideas in forms that are appropriate to intentions" For this objective you need to show that you can use both primary and secondary sources to gather relevant information. Appropriate is the key word you could include the following: Observational, Memory, Photos, Brainstorms, Gallery work.

AO2 you need to be able to "analyse and evaluate images, objects and artefacts showing understanding of context" To fulfil this objective you need to be able to look at work by both past and contemporary artists and assess it critically with reference to the TIME and CULTURE in which it was produced. You will need to research the background and gain a good understanding of why and how the artists produced it. You could look at his/her motives and influences, whether the piece is an example of a particular group or style of work, how the work was received at that time. The examiner will be looking for your use of good specialist vocabulary as you write your notes. You could include: Practical analysis – studies from the art work, pieces of your own ‘in the style of’. Annotation (could be from non-famous artists, such as relatives or resident artists) and own work annotation

AO3 You need to" develop and explore ideas using processes and resources, reviewing, modifying and refining work as it progresses" This assessment objective allows you to demonstrate how versatile and creative you are. You start you’re your idea or exam question and develop it exploring different materials, techniques and processes. You will try to show off the range and depth of your skills. You will make notes assessing for yourself how the work is going. You could demonstrate: risk-taking and experimentation, a ‘journey’ through your ideas or your sketchbook, different media, colourways, scale etc.

AO4 you need to "present a personal response, realising intentions and making informed connections to the work of others"  Original and personal outcome by you but very clearly show that you have learnt from the ‘others’; that is those artists you have been encouraged to explore.In your final piece(s) show clear connections with the artists’ work and with your own prep work.

NB Although it is stressed that imagination and memory are encouraged, those who do this with little or no observation work are penalised in marking
